Gallup, NM, September 28, 2018 — The Red Nation-Gallup invites anyone interested in organizing for LGBTQ2 liberation to join us for “All My Heroes Are Queens: A Queer Feminist Symposium.”

When: Friday, September 28, 2018 from 10:00am – 4:00pm

Where: El Morro Theatre, 207 W. Coal Ave, Gallup, NM 87301

With this symposium we hope to spark critical dialogue and public education about a broad range of approaches to queer and feminist politics, identities, issues, and lived experiences. Our presenters will openly discuss topics and experiences that challenge us to think and act differently about gender and sexuality.

Many of our womxn and LGBTQ2 relatives are murdered and missing in bordertowns like Gallup because of violent heteropatriarchy. Cis-women of color and trans-women face the majority of this violence. This symposium is aimed at helping everyone find language and courage to stop this violence.

The program features a special talk by one of the original Indigenous feminists, Dr. Jennifer Nez Denetdale, who will explore how Diné (Navajo) traditionalists have responded to expressions of gender diversity. Other roundtables and workshops will include:

  • the first-ever public discussion about Pueblo feminism;
  • how to have body-positive and sex-postive sex;
  • liberation for our transgender relatives;
  • decolonization and queer kinship;
  • ending rape and human trafficking in bordertowns;
  • challenging cis-hetero privilege in Indigenous environmental justice activism.

We will keep the momentum going with a sign-making party following the symposium. Grab dinner on your own and then join us at 6:30pm to make signs for Saturday’s Gallup PRIDE celebrations. Please bring sign-making supplies, snacks, and beverages for everyone to enjoy as we continue to demand LGBTQ2 liberation!

When: Friday, September 28, 2018 from 6:30pm-9:00pm

Where: Work in Beauty, Inc., 113 E. Logan Ave, Gallup, NM, 87301

If you’re passionate about LGBTQ2 issues, curious about Indigenous liberation, or just want to organize for change, the symposium and sign-making party will be opportunities for you to connect, learn more, and get involved.

Both events are all-ages, open to the public, and no admission or registration is required.

This symposium is part of Gallup PRIDE 2018. As part of Gallup PRIDE 2018, we seek to create a space of support for open-minded and honest conversations about gender and sexuality. This will be a hate-free event. Transphobia, homophobia, sexism, racism, and ableism will not be tolerated. All who want to support, learn about, and organize for LGBTQ2 liberation are welcome!
