We are excited to announce the launch of a new Political Education section of our website. In these times of rapidly changing conditions, political education and study remain crucial to our struggle. We must be able to understand how we have arrived at our present moment and learn from the struggles of the past as we respond to the crises we face today. As we mobilize and respond to these crises, it is still necessary that we reflect on and adapt our understanding of the world and continue to develop our political consciousness. We have made this Political Education tab for you, our comrades and kin, to learn more about the political ideologies that guide our struggle.
The Political Education tab includes a series of reading lists on topics such as Indigenous Socialism, Black Liberation, Queer Indigenous Feminism, among others, that are relevant to our ongoing struggles for liberation. Each list includes essays, books, films and audio files like podcasts and speeches. We’ve bolded the titles that we felt are a good starting place if you are new to the topic or to revolutionary study. We believe that everybody is capable of study and that it is necessary for everybody to engage with the ideas that can aid us in liberating ourselves. Even if you don’t like reading, need to look up words while reading the text, or have struggled in colonial education institutions, we encourage you to engage with these materials. While The Red Nation hosts study groups at the local Freedom Council and National level, we know that not everyone is able or ready to commit to those recurring meetings, nor do we have the capacity yet to invite everyone into our study groups. These lists allow you to do self-guided study as well as read with your friends, family, and comrades. We believe that collective study, discussion, and most of all praxis— putting theory into action and then reflecting on whether or not our ideas were correct— are the best way to develop politically. So we encourage you to find at least one other person to read these pieces with.
When COVID spread throughout the world and we witnessed mass uprisings against police violence against Black people as well as the rising collaboration between police and far-right organizations, many of our members turned to theory to understand what was happening. We looked to the history of anti-fascist struggle, of Black and Indigenous solidarity, and revolutionary organizing in order to inform ourselves on our present moment. We urge you to take these readings and, as Amílcar Cabral said, use theory as a weapon in our fight for liberation. We hope that these readings, which have inspired and guided those of us in The Red Nation, will also provide you clarity in these times.
